At the end of my freshman year, I decided to run for my chapter’s Mazkirah and won. The term, as stressful as it was, turned out to be so much fun and also a learning experience. Being a Mazkirah gives you a lot of creative freedom, which is both a blessing and a curse. It requires constant work, posting weekly with reminders, TikToks, and pictures from the program. So, as I reflect on my term, here’s my advice:

1. Play around with Canva and pick a template or some fonts and colors to build your content on. This creates a cohesive theme across your chapter’s social media. It also makes it easier to design each post. That way, it’s simple to customize throughout the term.

2. Get creative with what you post. You can do more than just post about programs. Don’t be afraid to try new things like highlighting new members, posting takeovers, etc. This makes your chapter’s social media more personable! During my term, I worked with our Sh’licha to post a Hebrew word of the week and with our Morah to post new members for New Member Monday.

3. If BBYO Insider or your region post, hype it up! It’s on you to get the word out about big events. Anything they post, your chapter members should know about! BBYO’s mission statement is “More Jewish teens, more meaningful Jewish experiences," so by reposting, you’re providing members with the information to enhance their time in BBYO, whether it’s getting them to apply for steering, attend convention, or go on a summer program.

4. Your chapter’s TikTok and photodump accounts are meant to showcase your chapter’s personality, so take advantage of that. It’s such a great way to express your chapter’s identity — be authentic!

5. Create a posting schedule and/or set reminders for yourself. I would use my phone's reminders app to post consistently and keep track of no-post dates. This helped ensure I didn’t forget anything important, and it makes everything much more efficient and less stressful.

6. Take live photos! Live photos truly capture memories. Additionally, if someone’s eyes are closed, you can change the key photo. That way, you have more high-quality photos to post.

Overall, Mazkirah is such a fun position. I learned so much from it, everything from strengthening my design skills to managing deadlines. It’s definitely no easy feat, so hopefully these tips can make your term run more smoothly!
