The Best Ways to Utilize Your Chair as a Board Member
If your chapter has chairs and you’re on board, but aren’t quite sure how to use them, here are 3 ways that you can!
1. Introduce how to write programs
Chairs decide to take on their position because they want to have more experience with chapter board. A huge part of being on board is writing programs for events. If you can have a call with your chair and teach them how to write programs, find supplies, and come up with program ideas, this will allow them to see what being board could look like.
2. Run programs with them
You should not just have your chairs help with writing programs, you should also let them help run a program. Each chair has a specific name, and those vary between chapters. For example, my chair is the “Havdalah Helper Chair” (shout out Erin!) since I am the Sh’licha. Make sure that you’re assigning your chair programs that align with their specific roles. Allowing them to lead a program not only builds their experience but also shows the rest of the chapter that they are ready to step up. This can inspire more people to want to become chairs and run for board in the future!
3. Let them join a board call
Though this is 100% up to your chapter N’siah, having a board call that includes chairs is extremely helpful. When I was a chair, I remember joining a board call and learning a lot from it. Being on a board call as a chair will help give them an insider perspective on the chapter.
Overall, chairs can be super helpful if you put in the effort to utilize them. Hopefully, you learn something from this and can help your chair become a more prominent presence in your chapter.
