It’s the most wonderful time of the year! No, not the holiday season, but election season! Elections can be very stressful, so here are some tips for running for board:

Be prepared
Being prepared is one of the most important things when running for board. Having your speech done beforehand gives you plenty of time to perfect it. Standing in front of the mirror and reciting your speech once a day can help you be as prepared as possible.

Be confident
Confidence comes with preparedness. The better you are at reciting your speech, the more sure of yourself you will be. You won’t be nervous or stumble over your words—everything will flow naturally. Also, if you are confident in yourself, your passion and confidence will radiate, and people will see and believe in you.

Remember everything happens for a reason
If the outcome of the election isn’t what you hoped for, always remember that everything happens for a reason. I lost chapter N’siah and ended up serving as chapter MIT Mom for a second term, which ultimately was the best thing that happened to me. I learned so much and gained valuable experience. When I ran for council MIT Mom, I knew the ins and outs of the role.
