5 Tips For Your First Regional Convention
Regional conventions are one of my favorite programming events of the year! Here are some tips I wish I knew as a new member going on my first convention.
- Try to get most of your work done the Thursday night before you leave.
If you have to leave school early or won’t be in class on Friday, let your teachers know so you can easily make up work and don’t have to worry about it over the weekend or when you come back. You don’t want to have to worry about doing schoolwork while all of your friends are hanging out and having fun.
- Talk to new people!
You will see so many new people from your region, don't be scared to reach out! Imagine going home knowing that you have so many new friends and people to look forward to seeing next year.
- Take part in programming.
While you may seem tempted to sit in the corner at a program, talk to people and participate in the activities with them. This is another way to make new friends and have fun!
- Bring snacks!
Snacking with your roomies late at night is so fun, especially after a long day. My personal favorites are spooey and any type of sour candy. This is a great way to start conversations with your roommates.
- Don’t forget your spirit outfits, and be creative!
You don’t want to miss out on the fun of dressing up with your chapter and having a creative outfit is a great way to start new conversations.
I hope these tips are helpful and you have a great time!
