Less than a month ago, thousands of teens gathered together at BBYO’s International Convention to reunite with their old friends, make new friends from all over the world, and listen to a number of different speakers, each with different backgrounds and stories.

On Thursday evening, during opening ceremonies, we heard encouraging words from Rabbi Emily Hyatt, telling us how it is “our turn” to light the light for ourselves and those around us. Her empowering speech was a great way to start off an amazing weekend.

Friday morning was filled with speakers including The Honorable Rachel Azaria, gold medalist and LGBTQ+ activist Adam Rippon, and so many more. Youth activist Austin Perine reminded us to always show love and Governor Jared Polis motivated us to dream, dare, and do.

On Saturday evening, during BBYO honors, Yes Theory allowed us to spread the message “Love over Fear” to our friends and family back home, and actor and producer Max Greenfield told us that we can create so much change in this world.

Change was a word we often heard during IC plenaries. Each speaker made it clear in their own unique way that we are the future and it is up to us to create change we want to see. Without teens in BBYO, the future would not look as bright as it is today. Every Aleph and B’nai B’rith Girl is able to make an impact and start a movement.  

Each plenary speaker came from a different background and had their own message. Some were passionate about gun control while others wanted to help those experiencing homelessness. This diverse lineup made the plenaries even more exciting, knowing that each speaker had their own experiences and wanted to share their own story

These IC speakers were engaging and interesting and made everyone want to hear more. These speakers were passionate about what they believe in and were motivated to make a difference and it had a profound effect on participants from all over the world.

What’s even more exciting about the plenaries is that each delegate took away their own message. Some were inspired to create change in their community while others were looking forward to bringing positivity into their everyday lives. Our unique backgrounds and our unique stories made our experience listening to these speakers different.
