In rural Uganda's landscape lies a vibrant community with resilience, culture, and a unique spiritual journey. The Abayudaya community is a testament to the power of faith and determination. Amongst this dynamic community, the Abayudaya Teens Association shines brightly as an organization committed to empowering teens and preserving their rich heritage.
BBYO Uganda is a vibrant Jewish teen organization that connects Abayudaya teens across East Africa. Over the past year, we have engaged our members through various impactful activities and programs. Our successful Shabbatonim and conventions provide meaningful communal space for prayers, learning, and connection to one another. BBYO allows the teens to experience the joy of Shabbat together and gain leadership training that equips the teen leaders with essential skills to guide their peers effectively. Our annual convention brings members from different regions to exchange ideas and foster friendships. Additionally, our Tikun Olam activities focus on community service, inspiring our teens to give back and positively impact their communities. Through these initiatives, BBYO Uganda is dedicated to empowering our teens and enriching their Jewish identities.
The Abayudaya people are a small but resilient Jewish community originating from the Mbale district of Uganda. Their journey began nearly 100 years ago. Despite many challenges and adversities, the Abayudaya community has fiercely held onto its religious beliefs, traditions, and cultural practices, creating a distinctive identity in the heart of Uganda.
