Big Apple Region

About Us

Big Apple Region (BAR) serves Jewish teens in grades 8-12 in Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island, New York with a diverse menu of programming. The 13 chapters across the region provide an outlet for teens to create and participate in experiences that develop leadership skills, a strong Jewish identity and build a community in which teens can explore social issues that are meaningful to their lives.

Events are planned by teens, for teens and programming ranges from fun activities like ice skating and camping overnights, to communal Shabbat celebrations and leadership trainings. A parent, advisor, or regional staff member is always on hand to ensure safety and health.

Through the COVID-19 pandemic, Big Apple programming has smoothly transitioned into a virtual and hybrid model, with limited in-person programming in accordance with local health experts. Whether meetings and programs are in-person or on a screen, we're always having a great time!

Fun Fact: Our colors are red and white and our regional mascots are Pebbles and Bamm Bamm.

Through youth-led and staff-supported programs, BBYO Big Apple Region gives our members opportunities to develop leadership skills and positively affect their communities, the world, and themselves. We constantly strive to provide more Jewish teens with more meaningful Jewish experiences each and every day, so that they may become the future Jewish leaders in their communities and in the Jewish world at large.

Did you hear the news? Big Apple Region is looking for advisors in Brooklyn and Queens! Advisors are adult volunteers (21 years or older) who serve as positive role models working in partnership with staff to guide AZA and BBG chapters and faciliate opportunities for teens to grow into dynamic Jewish leaders. Reach out to us if you know someone who'd be interested!
